The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) program is a four-year full-time degree program requiring the successful completion of 480 credit points of study. It is designed for both pre-service and in-service students and is offered at Sonoma Adventist College.
The program is designed to be relevant, practical and specific to the educational needs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church throughout the South Pacific. It also accommodates the needs of other students who desire a Christian foundation for their Early Childhood programs of study. It is designed primarily for in-service students. The program has been constructed to develop competent, reflective teachers and graduates and are thus, recognized by the Teaching Service Commission of Papua New Guinea as eligible to teach across the whole curriculum in national primary schools.
Students combine studies in Early Childhood with both theoretical and practical aspects of education. The course requires the completion of a range of specialist subjects in education and professional studies. Each student also completes a core selection of religion studies that integrate moral values and learning. In each year, students develop skills in classroom competence and spend a total of a minimum of 320 hours over a duration of 80 days on supervised teaching practice in allocated primary schools.
Degree Structure
A minimum of 480 semester credit points of study must be completed to qualify for the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) degree. Nested within the degree is a three year Advanced Diploma of Education (Early Childhood). In order for a student to be invited to continue on into the fourth year of the degree program students must have achieved a 2.2 CGPA by the end of their 6th semester.
Successful completion of Grade 12 (Form 6) with a minimum of upper C passes (GPA 2.0).

Discipline teaching specialisation.
Each student chooses one discipline area as a major teaching specialisation from either Early Childhood (pre-school to Grade 2) OR Primary (Grade 3 – 6). A major teaching specialisation requires the completion of 10 subjects in order to prepare and equip the student teacher to teach at early childhood or primary school level.

The 40th-anniversary homecoming event for Pacific Adventist University will be held between Monday, 1 July until Sunday, 7 July 2023.

It depends. If you are flying into Papua New Guinea from overseas, it will be the cost of an airfare, plus a meal and accommodation package to stay at PAU.

The homecoming will feature a variety of activities, including speed friending, grad year meet-ups, reunion activities, street preaching, talent concerts, official opening program, live music, street parade, sightseeing in Port Moresby, keynote speakers, open day and campus tours, fellowship and worship, international meals, Sunday market, workline, awards night, sporting events, cultural performances, and more!
We encourage all guests to bring comfortable clothing for warm days and nights, your national dress, sun protection, toiletries and your Bible and notepad.
If you are staying on-site in the dormitories, you will need just a pillow and toiletries. If you are staying in the classrooms, you will need to bring your bed linen, pillow, towels and toiletries. If you are camping on the PAU campsite, you will need to bring your tent, sleep mat, linen, pillow, towel and toiletries.

Bring any medicines that you need and check with the country laws so you can bring them with you on the plane. Declare what is necessary when you arrive. On campus throughout the event, we will have ambulance support on hand, as well as our university clinic team. If you require any non-urgent medical support, we encourage you to visit our clinic or a nearby doctor.
Also, ensure when you travel overseas, to include travel insurance with your airfare.
